Teachers in Kogi State have commended the state Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello for the improvement being witnessed on the issue of salary payment since assumption of office by the present administration.
The Chairman of Nigeria Union Teachers (NUT) in the state, Comrade Ranti Matthew Ojo gave the commendation in his address on the occasion of 2019 World Teachers Day in Lokoja.
Comrade Ojo who acknowledged that the present administration has demonstrated serious commitment to improving their welfare said they have ramained one of the most neglected public servants, and called on government at all levels to accord them the respect they deserve.
The NUT Chairman further applauded the state government for its ongoing recruitment of 3,700 new teachers to shore up the profession, adding that such gesture was part of the union’s cries for a long time.
He appealed to the state government to look into their plight, including non payment of their promotion bonuses and other arrears inherited by the current administration since 2014, insisting the need for government to look into the emoluments of retired teachers and that such payments would make life meaningful for members.
The NUT Chairman urged members of the union to ensure they come out in November to cast their ballots, noting that the government of Yahaya Bello had made significant inroads in making life meaningful for them in the state.
Speaking, the Chief of Staff to Kogi State Governor, Hon Edward Onoja commended teachers in the state and indeed teachers the world over for their dedication to service and commitment to building future leaders.
He said the present administration of Governor Yahaya Bello was committed to building enduring legacy for Kogi State, noting that another four years for Bello was capable of ensuring socioeconomic advancement of the state.
